Conservation - Genetics

What is the genetic heritage of the American chestnut tree species? It is the things about it that make it unique.

For example, in comparison to the Chinese chestnut trees, the most obvious of these differences is stature. An American chestnut tree grows straight and strong to 100 feet or more. The Chinese chestnut tree spreads much like an old apple tree. Also, the quality of the American wood is much finer.
